De regen komt hier met bakken uit de lucht en het waait behoorlijk. Helaas, ik kan vandaag niet lekker binnen blijven.
Deze breirol heeft inmiddels 22 verschillende patroontjes.

Wat heb ik lopen dubben over de rand van de LUS. Net zoals bij de SBS mocht ik zelf bepalen wat voor rand. In het boek The Union Quilters wordt gesproken over bloemen guirlandes, ofwel floral swags. Wilde ik dat wel ? Wat voor stof ? Er zaten heel veel vragen in mijn hoofd en het maakte me erg onrustig.
Ik had heel wat boeken met geappliqueerde randen, maar net niet wat ik wilde. Daarom heb ik een guirlande uit de hand getekend op de maat van een blok met sashing en er een bloemetje dat ik in een boek vond tussen gezet.
Ja, dit is niet een rand die je zo af hebt. Wat een werk.
I had many thoughts about the border of the LUS. Just like the SBS I could choose the border myself. In the book The Union Quilters floral swags were mentioned as borders. Did I want that ? What kind of fabric should I use ? There were many questions running through my mind and it made me restless.
I have a lot of books with appliqué borders, but none of them worked. That's why I draw a swag myself that had the right dimensions and used a flower from one of the books.
This is not a border that is ready in a few days. What a work !

Maar nu, voor wat voor rand zou ik kiezen ? In haar boek The Union Quilters heeft Jennifer Chiaverini het over "floral swags"....

En natuurlijk ging de quilt vaak mee, als ik ergens op bezoek was. Dat kon niet anders, want ik heb er erg hard aan gewerkt.
Hoe ik aan al die kleurtjes paars kwam ? Uit eigen voorraad, gekocht en gehad. Natuurlijk waren er een aantal mensen die wisten waar ik mee bezig was en waarvan ik zo maar paarse lapjes kreeg. Ook van lezers van mijn blog die geen idee hadden waar ik mee bezig was. Heel erg lief !!

Now all that shades of purple, how did I get them ? From my stash, I bought them and I got them. A few people knew about the quilt and kindly donated fabrics from their stash. There were also people who had no clue, visitors on my blog that just sent fabric. So very sweet !
Mijn SBS heeft doorlopende sashings . Bij de LUS (Loyal Union Sampler) heb ik gekozen voor cornerstones. Ik vond het anders te massief. Omdat ik de cornerstones niet te opvallend wilde maken heb ik achtergrondstofjes gebruikt.
My SBS quilt has sashings without cornerstones. For the LUS (Loyal Union Sampler) I chose cornerstones, because I was afraid the sashings would become to dominant. I used different pieces from the background fabrics for them.
Gek genoeg moest ik, toen ik dit lapje voor het eerst zag meteen denken aan Marian'ne M. Dat komt door de dubbele M bovenaan het lapje. Het lapje is niet van haar, want werd al gemaakt in 1900.
Margaretha Mol maakt dit lapje op 11 jarige leeftijd in Nisse. Het is met wol geborduurd en heerlijk kleurrijk !
When I bought this sampler my thoughts immediately went to Marian'ne M , because of the MM. It is not hers, this one was made in 1900.
