sashings Torrington

Op de markt in Vaison la Romaine vond ik in het najaar een gigantische blauwe rok voor 5 euro. Jullie begrijpen het al, ik kon hem niet laten liggen. Bij thuiskomst heb ik hem nog even aangehad, maar het was geen gezicht. In no-time was hij gewassen en teruggebracht tot quiltmateriaal. Nu gaat de stof dienen als sashings voor de Torrington. Een quilt heeft tenslotte een verhaal nodig. 

In the fall on the market in Vaison la Romaine in France I found a gigantic blue skirt for only 5 euro.
I had to buy it. When I came home I tried it on, but it was way to big. In no time I had washed it and reduced it to quilt material. Now I am going to use it as sashings for my Torrington. Every quilt needs a story.

Ook het laatste blok, straks het centrale blok in de quilt, is af. De blokken komen op de punt. Daarom heb ik dit blok ook even op de punt gefotografeerd, anders komt de broderie perse zo raar over.
Nu de sashings.

I finished the last block. This will become the central block in the quilt. I put the block on point. All blocks will be on point. The broderie perse part can only be seen right, when photographed in this way.
Now on with the sashings.

Ik heb het maar even opgespeld en in de kamer gehangen, anders mis ik het overzicht. "Gezellig", zegt één van mijn mannen. Ze weten niet beter. 
Langzaam wordt het een feathered star met behoorlijk wat stukjes. O ja, in de hoeken komt ook nog broderie perse.

I put some pieces on a cloth and it is hanging in the living room. "Nice", says one of my men. They are used to it.
Slowly it is becoming a feathered star with a lot of pieces. The four corners also get broderie perse.

Torrington Place blok 13

Echt, ik wil teveel en zie teveel. Als je, zoals ik, van zowel borduren als quilten houd en eigenlijk ook van haken en breien, dan heb je een probleem. Dat probleem heet tijd. 

Twee maanden geleden kwam het patroon van blok dertien van de Torrington Place quilt al in de bus, maar toen was ik nog volop bezig met het borduren van Randje per Week 2018 ! 

Nu heb ik mezelf gedwongen dit weer op te pakken. Ben je dan eenmaal bezig, dan geniet je er ook weer van.  

Alle blokken in de kamer uitgelegd en laten fotograferen door een bereidwillige zoon. Inmiddels de stofkeuze bepaald, dus nu aan de slag met het centrale blok, een feathered star. Dat feathered komt nog.

I see to much and want to much. When you, like me, love to quilt and cross stitch and love to take a side step to knitting and crochet, you have a problem. Time is the problem !
Two month ago I had the pattern of block thirteen of the Torrington Place quilt, but by that time I was very busy embroidering Randje per Week 2018 !
Now I forced myself to work on the Torrington. Working on it makes me love it again.
I put all blocks on the ground and found a willing son to take a picture. I made my choice of fabrics so on with the central block, a feathered star. You see the feathered part later.

Torrington blok 12

En ook blok 12 is klaar. Het was puzzelen, want hoe komen de blokken ? Ik gokte op de punt en gisteren in de namiddag kwam ik een foto tegen op Facebook-pagina van Quiltmania van de totale quilt. Hij hangt in hun stand in Houston.

In de volgende Quiltmania dus nog één blok. Ook driehoeken, sashings en de rand. Dat wordt nog moeilijk kiezen.

Yesterday I finished block 12. I wasn't sure what to do with the inner part of the block. Would the blocks be placed on point ? Yesterday afternoon I saw a picture of the total quilt on the Facebook page of Quiltmania. The quilt is hanging in the stand of Quiltmania in Houston.

Next time one block, all sashings, triangles and the border. Hard to chose the right fabrics.

En ook blok 11 is een feit. Verder met het derde blok van deel 5.

blok 11 wat verder

Alle blauwe stukjes zijn net iets anders en dat maakte dat ik er gisteren op de bee met mijn hoofd bij moest blijven. Ik hoorde mezelf pruttelen. Thuisgekomen had ik de slag zo te pakken, maar de bee had ik natuurlijk niet willen missen !

All blue pieces are slightly different. I had to keep my head and not get distracted. I heard myself complaining a bit. At home it went better, but I just didn't want to miss the bee.

Torrington Place blok 11

Even had ik iets anders te doen wat ik later kan laten zien. Nu weer verder met het elfde blok van Torrington Place.
Zelf vind ik drie blokken per twee maanden, zeker als je nog andere dingen doet, best veel.

I had to do something in between. I will show you later.
Now on with block 11 of Torrington Place.
I do find three blocks in two months a lot. This is not the only project I am working on. In my case it takes to much time.

Torrington Place blok 10

Gelukkig heb ik in Frankrijk een grote werktafel.

I am glad I have a large table to work on in France.

Dat was zeker prettig met een blok als dit.

I needed a lot of space with this block.

Ik ben er nog steeds niet uit of ik in Frankrijk quiltspullen moet hebben of ze mee moet nemen. Voorlopig blijf ik ze meenemen.

Do I need quilt utensils in France or do I bring them with me each time I am there.

For know I keep bringing them with me.

En dit was het eindresultaat.

Torrington Place (21)

Net de foto genomen en ik krijg de kleuren niet, zoals ze in het echt zijn. Jammer !
Feit is wel dat blok 9 af is. Nu wachten op de nieuwe Quiltmania voor het vervolg.

I just took the picture and I can't get the colors the way they are in real. A pity !
But.. I finished block 9 ! Now I will have to wait for the new Quiltmania to arrive.

Torrington Place (20)

Eerlijk is eerlijk, ik had verwacht dit negende blok in het weekend klaar te hebben.
Het is echter (weer) een bewerkelijk blok. Het duurt dus nog even, want het leven bestaat niet alleen uit quilten.

To be honest I did expect to finish this block during the weekend.
It is (again) not an easy block, so it will take some time. Live isn't all about quilting.

doorgewerkt

Hard doorgewerkt dit weekend.
De uitdaging zat hem in het kleine randje. Nu verder met het derde blok van deze keer.

I work hard this weekend.
The most challenging was the small border. Now on with the third block.

druk bezig

Druk bezig met het volgende blok van de Quiltmania mystery van Michelle Yeo. Deze keer drie blokken en dat is best veel.

Torrington Place (17)

Eerlijk is eerlijk, het was gewoon een heel bewerkelijk blok en ik ben blij dat ik het klaar heb. 

De mystery van Micelle Yeo voor Quiltmania verrast je iedere keer weer. Voor deze keer nog twee blokken, maar nu eerst weer een klein stukje borduren.

To be honest, it was a lot of work and I am glad this block is finished.
The mystery of Michelle Yeo for Quiltmania surprises you every time. I still have to make two more blocks, but first of all some cross stitch.

Torrington Place (16)

In de vakantie heb ik me bezig gehouden met het maken van het zesde blok van de mystery quilt die Michelle Yeo voor Quiltmania heeft ontworpen.
Het was best wat werk en even had ik het helemaal gehad, maar toen hij af was, was ik zeer tevreden.

During my vacation I worked on the sixt block of the mystery quilt Michelle Yeo designed for Quiltmania.
It was a lot of work and there was a moment I wanted to throw it in a corner, but I was very satisfied with the final result.

Torrington Place (15)

Blok 5 is af. Door het gebruik van een andere stof ziet het broderie perse gedeelte er heel anders uit. 
Was weer een leuk blok om the maken. Op naar blok zes met wederom broderie perse.

I have finished block 5. By using my own choice of fabrics the broderie perse part looks quite different.
It was again fun to make. On with block 6 with again broderie perse.

Torrington Place (13)

Na een best druk en gezellig weekend kan ik toch iets laten zien van het vijfde blok van Torrington Place.
Alleen het middenstuk wordt bij mij hetzelfde als het mysteryblok van Michelle Yeo.
Ik gebruik stoffen uit de Provence, waardoor het broderie perse gedeelte anders uitvalt.
Vier van bovenstaande delen komen rond een cirkel. 

After a lovely busy weekend I can show you a part of block five of Torrington Place.
Only the center part of this mystery by Michelle Yeo wil be the same.
I use fabrics from the Provence instead of the fabrics of Michelle.
The borderie persie part will be different.
Four of the above parts will come around a center part.

Torrington Place (12)

Bijna 10 uur. De was hangt, zo naar mijn moeder en ik had tussen de bedrijven nog nog even tijd om blok 5 van de mystery van Michelle Yeo voor te bereiden.
Ik ben een ochtendmens. Fijne dag !

Almost 10 A.M. I have done the laundry, ready to visit my mother and in between time to prepair block 5 of the mystery of Michelle Yeo.
I am on my best in the morning. Have a nice day !

Torrington Place (11)

En ook het vierde blok van de mystery van Quiltmania is af. Nu is het wachten tot mei op de nieuwe Quiltmania met de nieuwe patronen.

I also finished part four of the mystery of Quiltmania. Now I'll have to wait till May for a new Quiltmania with new patterns.

Torrington Place (10)

Het weekend ben ik in de weer geweest met het vierde blok van de 2017 Mystery van Quiltmania.
Eerst gewoon appliqueren, daarna het middenstuk er deels uit met reverse appliqué en binnenin een klein beetje broderie perse. Wat wil een mens nog meer !

During the weekend I worked on the 2017 Mystery of Quiltmania.
I started with the normal appliqué. Part of the center will be removed by reverse appliqué and after that a bit op broderie perse. It is all a quilter wants and needs !
